Home work should be banned
I think home work should be banned because...1. A child could be stuck inside all day . You know your against it. They could go hyper and the parents would not be happy. That could make them Co-co!
2. They should be doing home work at school. It is set by school so DO it at school. Now that sounds fair.
3.Would you want your kid to have fun or be bored? Think about it!

I think home work should not be banned because...
1. It can teach a child to manage there own time. That can make them a good biasness man/woman.
2. They might not have time to do it in school. That might be because there working so hard at school they don’t have time to do it at school.
3. Would you want your kid acting like they own the house because they don’t do home work? I know you don’t and neither do I!

End of term 3 - Instructional writing

For the last 2 weeks of term we have been working instructional writing. We have been focussing on adding advanced features to our instructions. These include:
  • Use of adverbial clauses (if, so, that, otherwise) to indicate reason and time (when, after) e.g. Line the tin with paper so that it doesn’t stick
  • Use of varying levels of modality to make meanings stronger weaker e.g. could, should, might, like. " Should the cake burn, put heavy icing on it."
  • Use of beginning clauses to focus attention e.g. “After an hour check on the cake, it should be golden brown. "
  • The use of conditional forms to indicate potential choices. E.g. "To make the cake tastier add 75g of raisins."
  • Adding reasons for actions e.g. "Put the cake mixture in a square tin as it is easier to share a square cake."
  • Consider different ways of giving commands, e.g. As an offer or an order
  • Adjectives add details relating to size e.g. "A cake tin with a diameter of 15cm"
  • Present tense
  • Imperative (action) verbs e..g take, mix, bake, get, melt, sit, stir, kneed, glue
  • Vocab ranges from precise technical to everyday language.
Have a look at some of the delicious things we created and wrote instructions for.

Friends Poem

If you'd be my friend,

I'd eat
dog poo
Lick peoples shoes

Live in a trolley
Throw out my
dolly

Puke in your hair
Be hit with a
chair

Look
stupid in photos
Fight Mojo
Jojo

Spend No Money
Throw away
honey

Not pay
my bills
But run up steep hills

Play
basketball
Dance on
the wall

Use my brain
But get no
pain

And smile
without end
If you'd be my
friend!

Michael Rosen poetry by Michael

Our reading group is looking at poetry by Michael Rosen. We read the following poem:

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Ted.
"Leave me alone", he says,
"I'm just going to bed.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Roger
"Do you own this bin?" I said
"No, I'm only a lodger."

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Sue,
"What are you doing here?" I said
"I've got nothing else to do"

I then wrote some extra verses for the poem myself:

"Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Mike
and after I met that dog
he got in to a fight.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Jakob
and after I met that dog
he ended up naked.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Flynn
and after I met that dog
he ended up in the bin.
