I wanna Iguana - a great example of persuasion

How does Alex persuade his Mom he should get an iguana?

Give an example of the persuasive devices Alex uses and explain how this is effective.

This book was written for younger children, is it still relevant to children your age? Why?

Can you remember a time when you successfully persuaded your parents to let you do something you wanted to do?

How else could Alex have persuaded his mom? Can you think of anymore arguments for getting an iguana?

  2. Alex was giving lots of facts of how to take care of them and keeped on sending paper back to his mum.Alex used paper this is a very effective thing to use because you can keep sending paper back and you can enoiy the persn your writing to untill they give you what you want.I dont think this could be a good book for our age still because it can show you how to pursua someone.no.He could talk to her.

  3. Hello,

He persuades his Mum by saying bad things that would happen if he couldn't keep him, and good things that would happen if he could.

He say's please and try's to think of heaps of reasons why to keep him and eventually convinces his Mum.

Yes, because it's teaching us how to be persuasive and that's an i portant skill to have your whole life.

I persuaded my parents into buying me a new phone when my old one broke and I gave my Mum lots of reasons why.

  4. Hey,
He persuades his mum by telling her all the upsides of having an iguana & says that she won't even see it and he would do all the work.
He uses Mikey and says he agrees with him. It is effective because his mum would think that it is fine because Mikey's mum let him.
I think it is still relevant because people our age are always begging our parents for things. Well at least I do.
I can't think of a specific time I succesfully persuaded someone, but I have in the past.

  5. hey everybody,
He keeps on telling her all the positive facts about the iguana to make her change her mind.
He keeps saying things like 'From your responsible son Alex'.
We think it is still relevant because children our age still ask for things and we go on about it heaps.
Anna has tried but hasn't been successful.

  6. Hi,
Alex uses repetition and he provides facts and true statements to counteract his mother's statements. His mother cannot compete with proven facts and this helps Alex.
This book is relevant to children of all ages because everyone has begged their parents for something and this is a piece everyone can connect with.
I've persuaded my parents to get me a lot of things like shoes, a new phone, an android tablet, and a bunny! (A lot of other things as well. I try to be really annoying and consistent.)
Alex could have used more than just words and proven all his statements in real life and not promises. He also could have used more emotive langage.
    Bye!

  7. He persuades his mum by saying good reasons why he should have one and at the end of all the letters he keeps writing from your responsible son Alex and other stuff like that.

He uses repetition and says that his mom won't even know it's there. It is effective some of the time because his mom always finds flaws in his ideas.

It is relevant because it is a good persuasive story and maybe you could use it to get things for yourself. It could work.

Henry persuaded his mum to get him games. Chris successfully persuaded his mum to get him a laptop. :)

  8. Hey Everybody,
He persuades his mum by saying that he would be very reliable and nis willing to look after it.And on the end of his letters he wrote he always added your sensible son or your lonely son Alex to support what he wrote to her mum.
I think it is still relevant to people our age because it is still a very good piece of persuasive writing.I remember a time when I was at the supermarket and managed to persuade him to get me a block of chocolate Mmm.He could have talked to his mum instead of wwriting her letters. But apart from that I think he did a really good job.

  9. Hey,
He persuades his mum to buy him an iguana by telling her what he was going to do and that bad things would happen if he didn't get one. He told her that he would look after it and care for it with his own money. He put up a really good fight and had good reasons.

  12. Hey Everybody,
Alex was giving lots of facts about iguanas to his mum and he was
only telling his mum the positives of having a iguana not any of the negitives.
Also he was also using words like sweet, adorable and so on.
But most importantly he didn't give up.Alex just kept going and going untill
his mum said Yes .In conclusion.I think Alex was really good at convincing his mum
to let him have a iguana with his punctuation and facts.
I think I might use this on my mum except for a PONY!

  13. Heyy,
I watched the video and it was quite funny how much Alex wanted the Iguana his persuasive features were repeating himself a lot and using lots of facts.
His other tactics to persuade his mum were by saying he would clean his cage and pay for the iguanas lettuce and other things to take care of the iguana

  15. How does Alex persuade his Mom he should get an iguana?

He used some facts, used good reasons and told his mum that he had the resonablitily to take care of the iguana.

Give an example of the persuasive devices Alex uses and explain how this is effective.

He explaned his argument well for example heused good facts about the animal. He used emotional langage for example " Please mum I well take goodcare of it!"

This book was written for younger children, is it still relevant to children your age? Why?

I think is good for children our age because it can teach them to be persuasive and confence they mums.

Can you remember a time when you successfully persuaded your parents to let you do something you wanted to do?

I askedmy mum if we couldgo to Adenalin Forest next week and she said give me one good reason I said 1. we havn't been there before 2. our family would like to go there and 3. It would be fun.

How else could Alex have persuaded his mom? Can you think of anymore arguments for getting an iguana?

  16. Alex persuades his mum by using some powerful words and also he is using some emotional languge. He expresses himself in what he was saying like "please mum can i get an iguana'' in a way he really wanted to get one.

He uses emotion and tries to get his mums attention to the iguana. He uses good reasons as to why she should get an iguana and emotive languge to make his mum feel sad and buy one.

I think this book is still relevant to children our age because this book could be a great topic for children doing persuasive writing because Alex in this story is making a good example of persuasive devices.

I remember one time when i persuded my mum not to get a karaoke system because i would get distracted by her singing everytime in what im doing and i'd have to bare with it.

Alex also could have included some rhetorical questions like do you want a pet that is as quiet as a mouse? and he could have used even more powerful words like iguanas are wonderful and incredibly quiet.

  17. 1. Alex is trying to persuades his mum by using emotive languge and powerful
    words.

    2. He is emotive devices to make his mum feel sorry for him.

3.Yes because it still has peruasive devices that we are using at the moment.

4.Yes when I persaude my mum and dad to get me a Xbox 360.

    5. Alex could have used rhetorical question like have you ever wanted a pet that your parents didn't let you get? He could have also used a opening statment.

  18. Not many of us would like to have an Iguana for a pet. We think that Alex did a good job of persuading his mum that he should be allowed to have an Iguana. From D1 at EHS.
